Cheryl Cohen, assistant professor of cognitive psychology at Webster University, gave a talk, "Spatial Visualization Training Using Interactive Animation," on 1 p.m., Friday, April 17, in Chem Sci 215. Cohen also visited the Psychology Senior Seminar to meet with students at an afternoon colloquium. Cohen's visit was sponsored by the Department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences and the Visiting Women and Minority Lecturer/Scholar Series. 2009 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow Assistant Professor Jason Carter (ESHPE), graduate student John Durocher (Biological Sciences) and Associate Professor Rosalie Kern (Cognitive and Learning Sciences) published a paper, "Neural and Cardiovascular Responses to Emotional Stress in Humans," in the American Journal of Physiology: Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, volume 295, issue 6, 2008. Assistant Professor Chris Brill (Cognitive and Learning Sciences) presented a paper, "Effects of Secondary Loading Task Modality on Attentional Reserve Capacity," on Sept. 24 at the annual meeting of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, held in New York. Associate Professor William "Deak" Helton (Cognitive and Learning Sciences) presented three papers at the annual meeting of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, held Sept. 23, 24 and 25 in New York, "Human Judgments of Stress State in Performance Settings," "Performance on a Sustained Attention to Response Task" and "Relationships between Caffeine Consumption, Cognitive Slips-Failures, Daily Stress and Sleep," and he also chaired the session "Individual Differences in Performance Under Stress." In its June 26 issue, Geospatial Solutions, a publication for emerging intelligence about GIS and related spatial technologies, featured a paper authored by Assistant Professor Eugene Levin, Assistant Professor Robert Liimakka (School of Technology), Assistant Professor William Helton (Cognitive and Learning Sciences) and Senior Lecturer Gennady Gienko (University of the South Pacific), "Analyzing Eye Movement During Geospatial Data Inspection".
